The Goldstone Report on the Gaza War undermines the rule of international law. It is one-sided in accusing Israel of having committed “war crimes” while never making the same accusation against Hamas by name. The Report grossly underplays the thousands of rockets Hamas deliberately launched at Israeli civilians. The ‘evidence’ compiled against Israel is so unreliable that Justice Goldstone himself admitted that, had this been a court of law, “nothing would have been proven.” While Hamas terrorists intentionally target innocent men, women and children, Israel tries to avoid civilian casualties – an effort undermined, sometimes with tragic consequences, by Hamas’ tactic of embedding itself among civilians and using them as human shields. According to a Hamas spokesperson: “This is why [Hamas has] formed human shields of the women, the children, the elderly and the mujahedeen, in order to challenge the Zionist bombing machine.” This [Hamas] practice constitutes a war crime.
